Looking for cash?
You've probably heard a lot of people talk about getting money to help pay for college. But do YOU know where to find it? West Virginia has an entire office dedicated to helping you pay for education after high school. It's called the Office of Financial Aid and Outreach Services - and they have tons of info about scholarships, grants, and loans.
Click here to visit their site.
If you're serious about going to school (and getting help paying for it), you'll need to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The
FAFSA asks you to report things like your family's income, so be prepared to spend some time searching through tax records. The work typically pays off in the end, though, because many students who complete a FAFSA qualify for grants (money you don't have to pay back), or low-interest student loans.
Click here to visit the official FAFSA website — and look for GEAR UP events at your school that can help you and your family complete this important form.
Be aware! There are many (poser) websites that use FAFSA in the name, so be sure you visit the official FAFSA site created by the Federal Government. The official site is: www.fafsa.ed.gov.
The West Virginia GEAR UP Incentive Award
In addition to Federal aid and student loans, there are hundreds of local and state scholarships and grants. The West Virginia GEAR UP Incentive Award is a one-time award given to WV GEAR UP students to help them through their first year of college or career training.
